A college baseball reporter tweeted on Monday that another program reached out to Tennessee Vols head coach Tony Vitello in April.

According to CBC Texas reporter Jake McKeever, the Texas Longhorns reached out to Vitello in April. McKeever said that the conversation between Texas and Vitello was the catalyst for a yet-to-be-announced contract extension for the Tennessee head coach.

The reason this is coming up in late June?

Texas fired head coach David Pierce on Monday morning.

Vol Networks' Brian Rice alluded to a contract extension for Vitello earlier this month.

Vitello was likely going to receive an extension after another great season anyway. But the reported interest from Texas certainly didn't hurt Vitello's chances of getting an extension done with the Vols this offseason.

Texas A&M better pay that man. He’s a great coach. And this is coming from a huge Vol fan.
