    For those of you thinking about taking a trip to the South, there’s plenty to explore. From Tennessee to Georgia to Louisiana, you’ll have no shortage of sites, cuisines and people to make your vacation special and memorable.

    But if you’ve ever taken a trip before, you probably already know that traveling during the off-season is your best bet if you’re trying to save a bit of money or avoid the crowds. Nabbing a vacation package could also save you money on the overall trip.

    “When you’re purchasing an off-season vacation package, you’re taking advantage of some steep discounts,” said Scott Lieberman, founder of Touchdown Money . You could even save money on seasonal activities. “You might be able to find a package that includes a bigger room, a free spa service or a discounted activity. It’s always worth seeing what’s included,” he said.

    But where exactly should you go — and when?

    Emily Dreilich, a travel expert at Voyagers Travel , said, “Early summer (June) before the peak heat and hurricane season starts, or late winter (January-February) post-holiday rush.” Early fall, right after school starts back up, is also a good off-season time to go.

    As for the where, here are some vacation packages in the South you could check out in the off-season that could save you a bit of money on your travels .

    Best of the South: Atlanta to New Orleans

    The Best of the South: Atlanta to New Orleans package is meant for travelers who want to explore several places in the South. The trip starts in Atlanta, and ends in New Orleans. It spans 14 days and has the following rough itinerary.

    • Day One: Atlanta. It starts in the evening, where you’ll have a welcome meeting at your hotel with the guide and other travelers.
    • Day Two: Atlanta. You’ll see 33 acres of gardens and historic houses, as well as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site.
    • Day Three: Savannah. In the morning, head to Savannah to see the city and take a tour of Bonaventure Cemetery.
    • Day Four: Savannah. Enjoy a three-hour walking tour around the city.
    • Day Five: Charleston. Go to Charleston to grab lunch and take a Black History walking tour.
    • Day Six: Asheville. Head to Asheville through the Blue Ridge Mountains, get some barbecue and take a guided walking tour. If desired, splurge on a ticket to the Biltmore House and Gardens.
    • Day Seven: Nashville. Take a scenic drive to Nashville and explore the city with your group.
    • Day Eight: Nashville. The day is free, but there’s an evening walking tour.
    • Day Nine: Nashville. Check out the Country Music Hall of Fame, Studio B and more.
    • Day 10: Memphis. Go to Memphis to check out musical sites like the Stax Museum of American Soul Music.
    • Day 11: Memphis. After breakfast, the group will go to the National Civil Rights Museum and take in some history.
    • Days 12-14: New Orleans. These final three days are all about exploring New Orleans.

    This trip includes breakfast every day, as well as the tour van and a hotel. It costs about $400 per day but is cheaper during the off-season.

    Hike the Great Smoky Mountains

    The Great Smoky Mountains are arguably the most beautiful during the fall, so if you’re a fan of adventure and hiking, this is a must-see experience.

    You can take a four-day tour of these mountains for less than $400 (depending on where you stay). If you go on a guided trip, here’s what your rough itinerary could look like.

    • Day One: Asheville to Townsend. Start with a drive up to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, then hike around the Appalachian Trail.
    • Day Two: Townsend. After breakfast, take a hike to some beautiful waterfalls.
    • Day Three: Townsend to Asheville. Take a scenic drive to one of the day’s two hikes. Both hikes will get you to some waterfalls, which also make for a romantic backdrop. After, explore downtown Asheville.
    • Day Four: Asheville. Hike some more, have a picnic lunch and then head back home.

    This package includes two nights at a cabin and one night at a hotel. Four breakfasts and lunches are included, as well as three dinners. Transportation is also included. This package will cost you more than $400 per day, but you could try doing it on your own with a tighter budget. Consider different hotels, packing meals, shared transportation and more to save.

    Southern Charms & Florida Package

    This off-season vacation package starts in New Orleans and ends in Florida. It spans 13 days, so prepare for a longer trip. Expect to spend between $100 and $300 per day.

    In no particular order, here’s what this trip includes.

    • Guided tours to places like the Old World City, French Quarter, Jackson Square, St. Louis Cathedral and historic St. Charles Avenue
    • Time to yourself — and your partner, if traveling with someone else — so you can explore New Orleans

    • Exploration of Memphis (including a guided audio tour of Graceland)
    • Authentic Southern barbecue
    • A show at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville
