Novak Djokovic is third in the all-time list for most ATP match appearances in the Open Era, with only Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer ahead of him.

The Serbian, who continues to demonstrate remarkable longevity at the age of 37, surpassed Rafael Nadal in fifth place in November 2023 and has since moved above Ivan Lendl.

Here, we look at the 10 players with the most ATP matches played in the Open Era.

10. Stan Smith – 1,084

Stan Smith won 779 and lost 305 of the 1,084 ATP matches he played during a professional career which spanned from 1969 to 1985.

The tall American, who was ranked as high as No 3 by the ATP, won 48 tour singles titles, including the US Open in 1971 and Wimbledon in 1972. He earned $1,774,811 in total prize money.

9. David Ferrer – 1,111

David Ferrer, a former world No 3, posted a 734–377 record in his 19-year career, which began in 2000 and drew to a close in 2019.

The relentless Spaniard won 27 ATP titles and was a runner-up at the 2013 French Open. He won $31,483,911 in total prize money.

8. Andre Agassi – 1,144

Former world No 1 Andre Agassi won 870 and lost 274 of the 1144 matches he played on the professional tour between 1986 and 2006.

The great American won 60 singles titles overall and eight Grand Slams, including at least one of each Major. He collected $31,152,975 in total prize money.

7. Ilie Nastase – 1,242

Ilie Nastase, a former No 1 who competed professionally from 1969 to 1985, put together a 908-334 win/loss record from his 1242 singles matches on the ATP Tour.

Guillermo Vilas, who was ranked as high as No 2, won 951 and lost 297 of the 1,248 ATP matches he played during a 23-year professional career that started in 1969 and ended in 1992.

The left-handed Argentine, a particularly dominant force on clay courts, won 62 titles and four Grand Slams (two Australian Opens, one French Open and one US Open). He earned $4,923,882 in total prize money.

5. Rafael Nadal – 1,300

Rafael Nadal holds a remarkable 1,075-225 record from the 1,300 matches he has played so far in an illustrious professional career which began in 2001.

The formidable Czech, a former world No 1, claimed eight Grand Slam titles (two Australian Opens, three French Opens and three US Opens) among 94 ATP titles. He collected $21,262,417 on total prize money.

3. Novak Djokovic – 1,324

Novak Djokovic has won an astonishing 1,105 and lost just 219 of the 1,324 matches he has played, with the most recent of these coming at the 2024 French Open.

The legendary Serbian, who turned pro in 2003, has won 96 ATP singles titles and a men’s record 24 Majors. He has an 83.46% win-loss record and has earned an eye-watering $182,494,969 in prize money – an all-time tennis record.

Roger Federer won an incredible 1,251 times and lost only 275 of his 1,526 matches during a glittering 24-year career which spanned from 1998 to 2022.

The Swiss maestro, a long-time world No 1, won 103 singles titles and 20 Majors, including a men’s record of eight Wimbledon crowns. He claimed $130,594,339 in total prize money.

Former world No 1 Jimmy Connors holds the record for the most ATP matches contested with an outstanding tally of 1,557, of which he won 1,274 and lost just 283.

The indomitable American won a record 109 ATP singles titles and eight Grand Slams (five US Opens, two Wimbledon titles and one Australian Open) in a career that started in 1972 and came to a close in 1996. He earned $8,641,040 in total prize money.
