Jannik Sinner’s new girlfriend entering a very different world after a previous high-profile relationship

Jannik Sinner’s relationship with new girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya has got the gossip writers buzzing at the French Open, yet the new girl in the life of the Italian superstar is set for a quiet life compared to her previous relationship with a tennis star.

Sinner is famously private and has been reluctant to speak about his new love Kalinskaya other than to confirm he has started a relationship with the player at No 25 in WTA Rankings.

“You know, I don’t like to talk much about my private life,” Sinner told reporters.

“Yes, I’m with Anna, but we keep everything very confidential. I won’t say more.”

Sinner is unlikely to offer too many more comments on his new relationship with Kalinskaya, as he makes it clear in press conferences that he will not talk about anything other than his tennis.

That is a very different approach Kalinskaya’s previous relationship with a tennis player, as she dated the outspoken Nick Kyrgios.

The pair split in March 2020 and Kalinskaya hinted at the time that they did not part on good terms.

“We broke up. We aren’t friends,” she said on Instagram. “I understand you are his fans and it’s cool but I’m not going to talk about him. I have some respect for me as well, please. Thanks.”

She later clarified her statement with these comments, as she insisted there was no problem between her and Kyrgios stating: “He did nothing. He is a good person and I didn’t mean to comment about him. I don’t know why people think it’s about him. He is a great player and nice person.”

While Kyrgois always appeared to crave media attention during his time at the top of the game, the tennis player who has now attracted the romantic interest of Kalinskaya has a very different approach when he speaks about his personal life.

Sinner had made it clear time and again that his personal life needs to remain off-record for the media and that stance will not be changing now that he is in a relationship with Kalinskaya.

“I like to talk about tennis and about sports in general, but when it comes to private life, I want to keep it that way,” says the world No 2.

“I want to protect the people who are close to me, keeping them out of my public life.

“I love it as a task to be done, almost a duty: they helped me, when I was younger, to gain confidence in myself, and today somehow I want to protect them.”

Sinner and Kalinskaya have been supporting each other in their matches at the French Open, watching on from the player’s box.

It seems Sinner’s happiness off the court is inspiring him to play his best tennis on it, as he emerged as the stand-out player in the first week at Roland Garros.

Even if he doesn’t lift the title in Paris, Sinner’s elevation to No 1 in the ATP Rankings for the first time in his career looks likely over the next few weeks, but he has insisted that is not on his mind right now.

“I don’t think about it,” he added on the rankings question.

“At the moment all I can do is play in the best way possible. I just have to think about my tennis, my opponents. If it were to happen, I would take it and be very happy.”

Sinner may want the world to focus on his tennis and avoid quizzing him on his romantic life, but a high-profile relationship with a fellow tennis star boasting a big social media following such as Kalinskaya is always going to be a big talking point.
