Iga Swiatek in action at the 2024 French Open

Iga Swiatek dismantled Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 6-0 in the fourth round of the 2024 French Open to send an ominous warning to her rivals.

The world No 1 produced the most statistically dominant display of her career as she illustrated why she is a heavy favourite to defend her Roland Garros crown.

The 23-year-old Pole is looking to win her fourth French Open title in five years and claim her fifth Grand Slam overall.

“I was really focused and in the zone; not looking at the score,” Swiatek said in her on-court interview.

“I continued playing my game and working on the stuff I wanted to work on. It went pretty quickly; pretty weird.”

Swiatek will face world No 6 and Wimbledon champion Marketa Voundrousova in the quarter-finals at the Paris Major. The 24-year-old Czech was a runner-up at Roland Garros in 2019.

Here are seven remarkable statistics after Swiatek’s masterclass in Paris.

    10 points dropped

Incredibly, Swiatek lost only 10 points as she won 48 of the 58 total points played (83%) in the one-sided last 16 contest.

This is the fewest points any player has dropped in a completed WTA match since February 2021, when former world No 1 Ash Barty lost 10 points in her 6-0, 6-0 victory over Danka Kovinic in the first round of the Australian Open.

    40 minutes

The brutal demolition lasted just 40 minutes — making it the shortest match of Swiatek’s career. Her previous quickest match was her 0-1, 0-6 defeat to Simona Halep in the fourth round of the 2019 French Open, which lasted 45 minutes.

The 23-year-old’s fastest victory prior to this was her 46-minute, 6-0, 6-0 crushing of Karolina Pliskova in the 2021 Italian Open final.

    2 unforced errors

Swiatek struck 13 winners and made only two unforced errors in the match, while she also hit three aces to zero double faults. By contrast, Potapova’s winner to unforced error ratio was five to 19.

    No games went to deuce

Not a single game in the match went to deuce and there were only three games in which Swiatek lost more than a solitary point.

Swiatek won the fewest number of points (48) possible for a player to win en route to winning a completed best of three set match.

    18 points in a row

The most consecutive points Swiatek won was 18, while she did not allow her 23-year-old Russian opponent to win more than two points in a row.

Swiatek started this ruthless 18-point streak at 3-0, 15-15 on Potapova’s serve in the first set and did not lose another point until the second game of the second set.

Double bagels in back-to-back French Open campaigns

With her latest ‘double bagel’ whitewash, Swiatek has become the third player in the Open Era to record 6-0, 6-0 victories at Roland Garros in successive years. Gabriela Sabatini achieved the feat in 1992 and 1993, while Mary Pierce did it in 1993 and 1994.

Wang Xinyu was the player on the receiving end of a 6-0, 6-0 hammering by Swiatek in the third round of the 2023 French Open.

    Clay-court mastery

Swiatek has now won an astonishing 13.6% of the total sets she has played on clay at WTA Tour level tournaments by a score of 6-0.

This is the highest percentage of any player who has won 10 or more 6-0 sets on clay since 2000.
