Mirra Andreeva has become the second youngest woman to reach the quarter-finals at the French Open since the turn of the century.

The 17-year-old sensation progressed to the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time after her fourth round Roland Garros victory against Varvara Gracheva on Monday.

Here are the five youngest players to reach the quarter-finals of the women’s singles event at the French Open since 2000.

    5) Nicole Vaidisova – 17 years, 36 days (2006)

Nicole Vaidisova reached the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first of five times in her career at the 2006 edition of Roland Garros.

The Czech downed Marta Domachowska, Sun Tiantian and Aravane Rezai to reach the fourth round — where she upset No 1 seed Amelie Mauresmo 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-2.

Vaidisova, who was seeded 16th, then overcame 11th seed Venus Williams 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. In the last four, she fell 7-5, 6-7(5), 2-6 to No 8 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova.

    4) Maria Sharapova – 17 years, 35 days (2004)

Maria Sharapova advanced to the quarter-finals of a Major for the first time in her glittering career at the 2004 French Open.

The Russian saw off Barbara Schwartz, Rita Grande, 10th seed Vera Zvonareva, and Marlene Weingartner to reach the last eight without losing a set.

The future two-time Roland Garros champion, who was the No 18 seed, lost 1-6, 3-6 to 14th seed Paola Suarez of Argentina in the quarter-finals.

    3) Lina Krasnoroutskaya – 17 years, 29 days (2001)

Lina Krasnoroutskaya reached her only Grand Slam quarter-final at the 2001 French Open, having turned 17 just 29 days before the tournament.

The unseeded Russian upset ninth seed Nathalie Tauziat in three sets in the opening round, before adding victories over Lenka Nemeckova, Denisa Chladkova and Silvia Farina Elia.

In the last eight, Krasnoroutskaya was crushed 6-1, 6-2 by 14th seed Justine Henin, who went on to win Roland Garros four times.

    2) Mirra Andreeva – 17 years, 27 days (2024)

Andreeva, who celebrated her 17th birthday on April 29, has made it to the last eight of Roland Garros for the loss of a single set.

This came in the Russian’s 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 second round victory over 19th seed Victoria Azarenka. She has also seen off Emina Bektas, Peyton Stearns and Varvara Gracheva.

Andreeva will take on No 2 seed and two-time Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter-finals.

    1) Sesil Karatantcheva – 15 years, 288 days (2005)

Sesil Karatantcheva reached her first and only Grand Slam quarter-final at the 2005 French Open at the age of 15.

The Bulgarian beat Alona Bondarenko, 19th seed Shinobu Asagoe, 11th seed Venus Williams and Emmanuelle Gagliardi to make the last eight.

No 16 seed Elena Likhovtseva ended the teenager’s surprise run with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in the quarter-finals.

Karatantcheva later received a two-year ban for two positive tests for nandrolone — one of which was from during her 2005 Roland Garros run.
