Coco Gauff will move up to world No 2 after the French Open.

With bigger points up for grabs, the Grand Slams are always the events to watch when it comes to ranking movements.

This year’s French Open has been no different, with some key surges – and key drops – in the WTA Rankings set to take place after the tournament concludes.

We take you through the biggest winners and losers of the WTA Rankings ahead of action culminating in the women’s final on Saturday.

    WTA Rankings (w/c June 3rd, 2024)

    1) Iga Swiatek – 11,695
    2) Aryna Sabalenka – 8,138
    3) Coco Gauff – 7,638
    4) Elena Rybakina – 5,673
    5) Jessica Pegula – 4,550
    6) Marketa Vondrousova – 4,143
    7) Maria Sakkari – 3980
    8) Zheng Qinwen – 3,945
    9) Ons Jabeur – 3,748
    10) Danielle Collins – 3,472

No matter what, Swiatek was guaranteed to stay as world No 1 after the tournament, with the Pole comfortably clear at the top.

However, the world No 2 ranking was up for grabs between Sabalenka and Gauff, with Sabalenka having semi-final points to defend, and Gauff only quarter-final points.

There was also the possibility of further movement within the top 10, with little between world No 5 Pegula – who missed the event – and world No 9 Jabeur.

    WTA Rankings (as it stands)

    1) Iga Swiatek – 10,995 (11,695 with victory)
    2) Coco Gauff – 7,988
    3) Aryna Sabalenka – 7,788
    4) Elena Rybakina – 5,973
    5) Marketa Vondrousova – 4,503
    6) Jessica Pegula – 4,420
    7) Jasmine Paolini – 4,063 (as it stands)
    8) Zheng Qinwen – 4,005
    9) Maria Sakkari – 3,980
    10) Ons Jabeur – 3,748

    Big Winners

The biggest winner is undoubtedly Paolini, who is guaranteed to crack the top 10 for the first time after her stunning run to the final.

Paolini is currently world No 7 in the live rankings, but she will be at world No 5 if she beats Swiatek in the final.

Currently, Vondrousova is set to be world No 5 post-tournament, knocking Pegula down to No 6.

Though beaten by Swiatek in the last four, Gauff’s run means that she usurps Sabalenka and moves to world No 2 – after the Belarusian was beaten by Mirra Andreeva in the last eight.

Andreeva struggled in her last four clash against Paolini but it has still been a landmark fortnight for the 17-year-old, who will jump 15 spots to a new career-high of 23rd next week.

Elsewhere, Emma Navarro will jump up seven spots to a new high of 17th after her run to round four in Paris, while Sofia Kenin and Ana Bogdan will leap back inside the top 50.

Jannik Sinner and Jasmine Paolini lead Italian tennis surge that shows no signs of slowing down

    Big Losers

The most notable dip down the WTA Rankings is Karolina Muchova’s, with the Czech unable to defend her 2023 finalist points due to injury.

Muchova is projected to fall 19 spots to world No 35 next week, meaning she is unlikely to be seeded at Wimbledon – should she play.

Also falling down the rankings is 2023 semi-finalist Beatriz Haddad Maia, who lost in round one this year.

The Brazilian is set to slip six spots to world No 20, and could fall further down the rankings across the grass season.

2023 quarter-finalist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will fall four spots to world No 26 after her early exit while Elise Mertens may be unseeded at Wimbledon, the Belgian projected to fall six spots to world No 33.

Sloane Stephens’ round one defeat means she is projected to fall 12 spots to world No 47, while Sara Sorribes Tormo is set to dip 12 spots to 55th, and Lesia Tsurenko 13 places to 58th.

And, of course, Sabalenka will slip to world No 3 – potentially affecting her Wimbledon draw.
