Alexander Zverev has reached an out-of-court settlement with his former girlfriend Brenda Patea after being accused of assaulting her four years ag o.

The settlement does not involve an admission of guilt by Zverev , who will face Casper Ruud in the semi-finals at the 2024 French Open today.

Jonathan Crane, a journalist for DW News, shared the news in a post on X / Twitter.

“Germany’s top tennis player Alexander Zverev has settled his assault case with his ex-girlfriend,” Crane tweeted.

“He was accused of strangling her at a Berlin apartment in May 2020.

“The two sides have now reached an out-of-court settlement. There’s no admission of guilt by Zverev.”

Andy Murray speaks out on Alexander Zverev’s domestic abuse case and asks big question

The case was brought to court last week after Zverev contested a penalty order to pay fines totalling a reported 450,000 euros in October last year for allegedly causing bodily harm to Patea.

Zverev, who has always denied the allegations, was not required to attend the trial in Berlin.

Ahead of the French Open , Zverev said: “At the end of the day, I do believe in the German system. I do believe in the truth, as well. I have to be certain that I do know what I did, I do know what I didn’t do.

“That’s, at the end of the day, what’s going to come out, and I have to trust in that. You know, everything else is out of my hands. Not out of my hands, but I do believe that I’m not going to lose [in court]. There’s absolutely no chance I am.”

Following his Roland Garros quarter-final win against Alex de Minaur on Wednesday, Zverev was asked about the trial again and whether it was a distraction.

“No, they made it very clear to me from the beginning that I wouldn’t have to be there,” replied the world No 4.

“I think everything is going in the right direction. Everything is going great on my part, from my point of view. There’s not much more to say.”

Zverev will take on world No 7 Ruud in the second men’s semi-final at Roland Garros after Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner face off.

The 27-year-old German is looking to reach his first French Open final, having lost in the last four in each of the last three years.
