Iga Swiatek wins the French Open

Iga Swiatek’s dominance of women’s tennis appears to be complete and her prize money total is already moving her into the list of all-time greats.

The Polish star was already in the top ten of the all-time prize money list prior to her fourth French Open crown, which saw her collect €2,400,000 in prize money.

That cash windfal adds to her already remarkable prize money total for a 22-year-old who could be on course to become the first female player to win $ 100 million in prize money.

Swiatek is currently in 9th place on the all-time prize money list with $31,484,977 in prize money, with German star Angelique Kerber the next player in her sights after her career saw her collect $32,368,813 so far.

She looks certain to overhaul Venus Williams in second place in the all-time list with $42,648,697, but she will need to continue winning at her current level for several years to overtake all-time prize money leader Serena Williams, who won $94,816,730 in her remarkable career.

Swiatek admitted her fourth French Open win was “emotional” after emphatically keeping her Queen of Clay title at Roland Garros.

The world number one from Poland brushed aside Italian underdog Jasmine Paolini 6-2 6-1 in and hour and eight minutes.

King of Clay Rafael Nadal may have played his last French Open this year but Swiatek comprehensively proved once again she is also Roland Garros royalty.

Chris Evert makes bold Iga Swiatek prediction as she takes a fourth French Open title

“When I talk about pressure, I usually put pressure on myself because of pressure of the outside,” she said.

“Obviously I’m a perfectionist, so there is always pressure behind me. But I think I’m fine with handling my own pressure.

“It’s when the pressure from the outside hits me, then it’s a little bit worse. But I managed it really well at this tournament.

“It was an emotional win, because I felt a lot of stress yesterday and today in the morning. And I knew if I’m going to just focus on tennis I can kind of fight through it, and at the end it all went how I wanted. So I just felt really proud of myself.”

Swiatek is the first woman to win three consecutive Roland Garros titles since Justine Henin in 2007 and only the third to achieve the feat in Open history, along with Monica Seles.

She is undefeated in Paris since 2021, 21 matches ago, and has won 34 of her 36 matches here, a record matched only by Seles and Chris Evert.

“Four Roland-Garros titles, she’s only 23, I think she can win another five, six, seven, because of her style it’s very modern, she plays with a lot of spin and a fierce racquet speed, that’s why she’s nearly unbeatable here,” said Grand Slam great Mats Wilander, speaking to Eurosport .

“I don’t think Iga was expecting her (Paolini) to be that aggressive and it look her a few games to get used to it. Then you think, Paolini has a chance here, then when Iga went 3-2 up you realise she doesn’t because she doesn’t have the weapons. It was close enough in the beginning for the people to enjoy it, but then you realise how good Iga is.

“I think she will win a lot more titles here at Roland Garros and if I had to guess, I’d say she will win more than 10 majors and maybe go up to 15 or 16.”
