Fitness coach Christos Fiotakis has revealed he has split with Stefanos Tsitsipas because he was “not satisfied” with the Greek’s work ethic and priorities.

Fiotakis, who left Tsitsipas’ team after the French Open, does not feel the world No 11’s “ultimate focus” is on “getting to the top of the rankings or winning Grand Slams.”

The fitness coach had worked with Tsitsipas for several years, before joining in a full-time role ahead of the 2024 season.

Tsitsipas holds a 28-10 record in 2024, with the highlight of his season to date coming in April, when he won his third Monte Carlo Masters title.

The 25-year-old reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros last week and was beaten in straight sets by eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz .

The two-time Grand Slam finalist will next compete at the ATP 500 tournament in Halle next week, where he will begin his grass-court season. Tsitsipas will then feature at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, which will begin on July 1.

In an interview with SDNA , Fiotakis confirmed he had ended his collaboration with Tsitsipas and did not hold back in questioning his Greek compatriot’s dedication.

“I am closing this circle, after I said that I will try to bring maximum results until Roland Garros. The results and goals I had set as a coach did not come,” Fiotakis said.

“However, we got Stefanos back on his feet, back to being a healthy athlete and competing at a high level after his injury. Beyond that there are some things that are out of my control.

“The team atmosphere doesn’t match my energy and, unfortunately, we have other priorities. I wish him, however, the best, that he may always be healthy.

“Thank you for this experience I had with the team, I think I gave them a lot, but I also learned a lot through the seven intense months on tour with such a high level athlete.

“I hope that at some point he will understand that what I am telling him is correct and that he will climb to the first step of the podium.”

Fiotakis added: “I was really looking forward to the Olympics in Paris because I thought that would be the moment when we could bring the gold, which we didn’t do in Tokyo, due to bad luck and some strange circumstances.

“As I said, however, we have other priorities and I am not satisfied with Stefanos’ work ethics. Right now, I don’t think his ultimate focus is on playing tennis and getting to the top of the rankings or winning Grand Slams.

“So that’s why I too can’t travel for seven months straight, with only 25 days at home, when the goals are not high and I’m traveling just to travel.

“I have enough work at home and I prefer to distribute my energy to different people in my daily life, make them fitter and achieve what they want, without stress.”
