Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz were the 2024 French Open champions

Tennis great Chris Evert assessed that Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz have brought “a new and higher level” to tennis following their French Open triumphs.

The former world No 1 forecasted that Alcaraz and Swiatek will both reach “double digits” in terms of Grand Slam titles and expects the duo to “be around for a long time.”

Swiatek claimed her fourth Roland Garros crown and fifth Major title overall earlier this month as she reinforced her status as the best player in the women’s game.

The world No 1 dropped a single set during her French Open title run, which came in her second round victory against Naomi Osaka — in which she survived a match point.

The 23-year-old Pole is on a 19-match winning streak, having won back-to-back clay-court WTA 1000 titles in Madrid and Rome prior to Roland Garros.

Swiatek is next due to compete at Wimbledon , where she will look to claim a maiden title, after she withdrew from this week’s Berlin Open.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, secured his third Grand Slam title at the French Open to add to his crowns at the US Open and Wimbledon.

The Spaniard, who turned 21 last month, became the youngest man to win a Major on all three surfaces and the fourth-youngest man to claim three Grand Slams.

The world No 2 will attempt to defend his titles at the Queen’s Club Championships and Wimbledon in his next two tournaments.

In a post shared on X, Evert offered high praise to Swiatek and Alcaraz for their impact on tennis and predicted that the two stars will have much more Major success.

“They’ve brought a new and higher level to the game,” Evert wrote. “Forecasting double digits in Slams. They will be around for a long time!”

Evert, an 18-time Grand Slam winner, recently proclaimed that she expects Swiatek to break her record of seven French Open women’s singles titles.

“Absolutely. Iga is a player on a mission. She’s more focused. She doesn’t get upset at all when she’s losing,” the American told The Associated Press.

“She just has all the ingredients to be a champion. She really does. She checks all the boxes — the intangibles and the tangibles.

“I just think Iga is the most solid of all players out there. She doesn’t seem to have any big holes in her game.

“She’s an excellent front-runner. Once she gets going, and she’s winning, she has that confidence.”
