Jannik Sinner will be the top seed at a Grand Slam for the first time in his career at Wimbledon this year while Novak Djokovic has received an unexpected boost with Carlos Alcaraz’s early defeat at Queen’s Club.

Only one British player is set to be seeded for the grass-court Grand Slam while Taylor Fritz is one of five American men who will be seeded and Argentina is projected to have four on the list of 32.

Following his rise to the top of the ATP Rankings after the French Open, Sinner is assured of being ranked No 1 on June 24, the cut-off date that the seedings will be based.

There was a battle for the No 2 spot behind him as Alcaraz was the defending champion at the Queen’s Club Championship and he had to reach at least the final to hold off Djokovic.

But the Spaniard lost in the second round against Draper, handing Djokovic the second-seed spot behind Sinner with Alcaraz having to settle for third place.

Djokovic – who was the top seed at the Australian Open and French Open – has not played since the fourth round of the French Open and there are still doubts over his participation at Wimbledon as he is recovering from knee surgery.

Alex de Minaur has been the big loser in the top 10 as his defeat in the opening round at Queen’s means he dropped two spots in the Live Rankings and is set to be seeded ninth while further down the list Alexander Bublik will drop at least five places after losing early in Halle.

As things stand, five Americans will be seeded with Fritz leading the pack as he is at No 12 – although Tommy Paul could upstage him with Ben Shelton, Sebastian Korda and Frances Tiafoe the other men in the top 32.

Argentina are next best with Sebastian Baez, Francisco Cerundolo, Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Mariano Navone set to be seeded although the last two could still miss out.

Jack Draper is set to be the only British player who will be seeded in the men’s draw with his rise into the top 32 coming on the back of his maiden title at the Stuttgart Open. Cameron Norrie and Dan Evans carried the flag in recent years, but they have both slipped down the rankings.

One player in the top 32 has withdrawn as Jiri Lehecka (the world No 25) will miss the tournament due to injury.

Matteo Arnaldi (33, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (34), Luciano Darderi (35), Tomas Machac (36) and Gael Monfils (37), are the five players who are just outside the cutoff although one or two players lower down the list could still make a late surge at either Halle or Queen’s Club this week.
