Judy Murray has slammed a report suggesting that son Andy had been officially ruled out of Wimbledon following back surgery.

The Telegraph reported on Sunday that Murray , a three-time Grand Slam champion and former world No 1, would miss what looked set to be a final appearance at his home major tournament.

However, social media posts from the ATP Tour responding to the news were deleted shortly after being initially posted, and denials from Murray’s camp came shortly afterwards.

Among those to stress that Murray had not officially pulled out of Wimbledon was Great Britain’s Davis Cup captain Leon Smith, a long-time confidante of the 37-year-old.

Speaking on the BBC, he said: “Look, I have seen the stories on social media and that is not my understanding.

“This has come from one source and it has a knock-on effect with everyone reporting on it. He obviously went through a procedure yesterday and we will have to wait and see now.

“My understanding is that no decision has been made. Let’s hope for the best for Andy.”

Murray’s management officially spoke out earlier today, also denying any alleged withdrawal.

Respected figure claims Andy Murray has made ‘no decision’ about Wimbledon participation

“Following his surgery on Saturday, Andy is continuing to work with his medical team to confirm when he will return to the court,” the statement read.

“At this stage, no decisions have been made and we will update further as soon as anything has been finalised.”

Now, Murray’s mum and former Great Britain Billie Jean King Cup captain Judy – one of the most influential figures in the British game – has also spoken out against the Telegraph’s report.

“When your private medical details are leaked to the media by someone you thought you could trust. So disappointing. And – FYI – not ruled out yet,” she wrote.

All eyes will now be on whether Murray is able to play, with any withdrawal likely to come before the men’s singles draw is made on Friday morning.

Murray famously ended a 77-year wait for a British men’s singles champion at SW19 in 2013, beating Novak Djokovic after losing the final to Roger Federer the previous year.

The Brit added a second Wimbledon title to his collection in 2016, defeating Milos Raonic, while also winning Olympic gold on Centre Court during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Murray’s grass-court season started in fine style with victory over Alexei Popyrin in his 1,000th career match at Queen’s last week, but his retirement against Jordan Thompson in round two prompted these latest injury fears.
