    Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic

Jannik Sinner will be the top seed at a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, while Novak Djokovic is set to be seeded second if he plays.

The United States will be the nation with the most seeded players in the men’s singles draw, with Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Sebastian Korda and Frances Tiafoe.

Argentina have the next highest number with four, with Sebastian Baez, Francisco Cerundolo, Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Mariano Navone.

Jack Draper, who climbed to a career-high world ranking of 29th today, is the only British man who will be seeded at this year’s Championships.

Sinner became the first Italian player in tennis history to become a world No 1 following the French Open earlier this month. The 22-year-old extended his lead at the top of the ATP Rankings after winning his first grass-court title in Halle last week.

Novak Djokovic’s recovery from injury leaves former world No 1 in disbelief

Alcaraz was the world No 2 heading into last week’s Queen’s Club Championships, but he has slipped to third after his title defence ended with a second round loss to Draper.

This means seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic will be the No 2 seed if he competes at the All England Club, but his participation is uncertain due to the meniscus tear he suffered earlier this month.

The 37-year-old Serbian would, therefore, be on the opposite side of the Wimbledon draw to Sinner and the pair could not meet until the final.

Assuming Djokovic plays, Alexander Zverev will be the No 4 seed, while Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz and Casper Ruud will complete the top eight.

World No 26 Jiri Lehecka is the only player who has withdrawn from the Wimbledon men’s singles event. The 22-year-old Czech has not played since the Madrid Open at the start of May due to a back injury.

Lehecka’s withdrawal will allow Zhizhen Zhang, who attained a career-high ranking of 33 today, to take the 32nd and final seeded position.
