A historical house deeply rooted in the Civil Rights Movement stands in jeopardy in Aberdeen. The community is desperately trying to preserve it. Positioned at 430 S. Law St, this house carries a rich legacy of its owner, Janice Grant, who was significant in the Civil Rights movement, and desegregation efforts in Harford County. The house, full of mementos from Grant's career, has been the setting of major historical events, including church meetings and NAACP gatherings.
Following the loss of her husband three years ago, Janice moved next door, keeping ownership of the property. However, the house has fallen into ruin. Realizing the overwhelming historical importance of the house, the community launched a GoFundMe campaign to prevent a potential foreclosure.
While the fundraising effort didn't hit its monetary target initially, the community secured an extension until October 5th, with a goal of raising over $20,000. As the deadline draws near, the urgency to save the house and safeguard Janice Grant's important contributions to history grows. Currently, it remains to be seen if the needed funds can be raised in time.
