One dead, one injured after car vs. motorcycle accident on U.S. 41

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Update: 8:53 p.m . The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has given an update on the crash via a post from Facebook. The identity of the motorcyclist that was killed in the fatal accident was 35-year-old Austin Byrd of Terre Haute.

One is dead after a car vs. motorcycle accident that happened in southern Vigo County Saturday night.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the intersection of U.S 41 and Woodsmall near Menards at approximately 10:41 p.m. Saturday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV was traveling southbound on U.S. 41 and was attempting to turn east onto Woodsmall. The motorcycle was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 before striking the passenger side of the SUV.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No drugs or alcohol are detected in the incident.

Northbound lanes of U.S 41 and WoodSmall Dr. were closed for multiple hours into the early hours of Sunday morning.

A reconstruction team was called to the scene and is further investigating the crash.
