TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local book store is getting set to celebrate a big anniversary.

In a time where technology runs the world, The Open Door Christian Book Store has found a way to prosper in Terre Haute. Manager Steve Storey says that the key to success over the last 40 years is offering a shopping experience that technology cannot match.

“There’s just something about being able to come to a store and have interaction with somebody,” Storey said. “It’s easy to look things up online, but that can only take you so far. To have a person with some knowledge that can answer questions, we just have a human touch that a computer doesn’t.”

Another big draw for the book store is the atmosphere. Barista Makayla Skinner says that customers can browse the shelves and get a good meal in one trip at the Gingersnaps Cafe.

“A lot of people don’t even know that we’re back here,” Skinner said. “When they come into the bookstore and they ask, ‘well, can we get drinks? Do you know where we can get some lunch?’ So they always come back here and they tell the customers, ‘we got really good food here in the back’.”

A celebration is set for Saturday and will feature live music, games, and giveaways. No invitation is required and it will begin at 11 a.m.
