TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)—On July 27 The Terre Haute Children’s Museum will be hosting its tenth annual Train Day.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 27 the museum will have multiple exhibits dedicated to trains for the children of Terre Haute. Cintrak Model Railroad Club and other individuals will have multiple layouts on display. The Wabash Valley Railroaders Museum and the National Model Railroad Association will also be there to answer questions about their organizations.

Children will get to experience train layouts of various sizes with detailed and elaborate painted scenes. There will also be a hands-on science experiment with train wheels and how their shape helps keep them on track through curves. They will also have a setup full of wooden track that the kids can build their own rail line.

We spoke with Renee Henry, Director of Education at the museum who said that kids respond really well to this event. She said to expect around 4-5 small displays on the first floor along with a much larger setup upstairs for the first time. Renee said that the idea behind Train Day stems from the deep connection Terre Haute has to railroads. She said kids grow up win this town being railroaded and gain a fascination with these big machines much like dinosaurs and this experience puts them in the palm of your hand.

All activities will be included with museum admission. Museum admission is $9 per person and museum members get in free. Tickets are available at their website.
