TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Terre Haute announced a town hall meeting for July 29 to gauge interest in the Terre Town Connect Project.

The meeting will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Terre Town Elementary School. The initiative aims to connect Terre Town residents to Indiana American Water’s public utility water system. This could help reduce reliance on private wells in the area and provide new hydrants.

Mayor Sakbun and representatives of Indiana American Water and the City of Terre Haute will be in attendance to answer the community’s questions and listen to feedback. This is a limited-time opportunity with funding from Terre Haute ready to cover connection costs should the motion pass. If a majority of Terre Town households sign up Indiana American Water will be able to design and install water mains with no upfront costs to homeowners.

“The City of Terre Haute has a unique opportunity to expand water services to residents,” Mayor Sakbun said. “Thanks to legislation from the Indiana Statehouse and funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, we can connect Terre Town residents to Indiana American Water. This session will highlight the benefits of this program, with the city and Indiana American Water staff available to answer questions and provide information.”

Residents are encouraged to come to the meeting to learn about the project and ask questions and find out if they’d like to begin the sign-up process.
