TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Students from Tajimi, Japan, got an up-close look at the history of Vigo County on Thursday.

Their visit is thanks to a partnership with the city of Tajimi, Terre Haute’s sister city. The exchange students are staying with host families of Vigo County School students and the school corporation is showing the teens around Terre Haute.

During Thursday’s visit to the Vigo County History Center, the students saw a special exhibit about the history of Terre Haute’s relationship with Tajimi.

Vincennes France exchange students proclaimed as Honorary Citizens

This is the first time students have been hosted from Tajimi since 2016.

“I really like that we get to show them our culture and our community, and hopefully in the future we get to go over there, but I just think it’s good just to start it back up,” Dr. Matthew McClendon, Chief Diversity Officer for the Vigo County School Corporation said.

On Friday, the students will meet Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun.
