TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)—There has been a series of animal attacks in northern Terre Haute.

According to a Facebook post from the city of Terre Haute, three large dogs were identified to be the culprits. The city is making strides in trying to rectify the situation. Code Enforcement has been increasing patrols in the area of the attacks. Citations have already been issued and an expedited court date has been scheduled. The city said they are concerned with the issue and are working towards a comprehensive solution to not only this issue but the welfare of animals in the city. Investigations are still ongoing and we will update more information when they are released.

The city has been spending the last several months reviewing all of its animal control policies and procedures and is a priority of the city. Back in 2004 Animal Control was a part of the THPD Humane Officers Unit. The city is currently looking at all their options under the current model.

In 2023 the city allocated $250,000 to give to the Humane Society’s new clinic. Again in 2024 $25,000 was allocated toward low-cost spay and neuter programs. The city says that they are proud of the work they’re officials have done and the improvements they are making and have already made.
