Anchorage man fired shotgun at homeless people from pickup, police say
An Anchorage man is accused of firing a shotgun at homeless people in Midtown Anchorage from his pickup truck this week. Andres Corona, 39, is charged with five counts of weapons misconduct, two counts of assault and one count each of DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test. The charging document and a police statement do not mention any injuries during the Tuesday incident.

Coast Guard Announces Newest Icebreaker Will Head to Juneau as Healy Suffers Major Fire
The Coast Guard announced Wednesday that it will homeport its newest icebreaker -- a commercially acquired ship to be adapted for homeland security -- in Juneau, Alaska, as its 27-year-old Arctic icebreaker aborted its summer deployment following an electrical fire.The vessel currently known as the Aiviq should be operational in 2026, according to a service announcement Wednesday. Fire aboard former state ferry Malaspina quickly extinguished in Ketchikan
A fire broke out on the decommissioned state ferry Malaspina in Ketchikan’s Ward Cove on Tuesday night, but was extinguished without injuries. North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jerry Kiffer said the fire aboard the vessel, which is being used as a bunkhouse for workers in Ward Cove, was reported at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. When firefighters arrived, there were no visible flames or smoke.

Skinny Raven turns 30 this year! They are planning an anniversary block party on Saturday, August 17, that will coincide with the Anchorage Mile, one of the competitive events that are part of the Anchorage RunFest weekend. Daniel Greenhalgh and Tasha Heikkila-Adam are co-owners of Skinny Raven Sports and have been with the iconic store from the beginning, in one capacity or another. There have been ups and downs throughout the years, including a point at which the original owner almost liquidated the store and Daniel and Tasha stepped up and bought the business. Skinny then survived COVID, pivoting to an innovative online presence. The store has a culture unto itself and is recognized as one of the top running stores in the nation.
