Penny Newman Grain Company, a Levelland-based entity, has agreed to move heaps of almond hulls infested with red flour beetles that have been causing problems for the locals.
Although the announcement has been well received, there are ongoing concerns due to daily citations issued to the company.
Approximately 5,500 tons of hulls need to be handled, a substantial task.
Cole Kirkland, Levelland's Emergency Management Coordinator, acknowledges the large scale of the operation but guarantees that at a pace of 700 tons daily, the hulls will be cleared out in a few days.
Upon completion, the city intends to treat the pest problem by applying an approved pesticide, Permex, supplied by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
