In Texarkana, my plans took a turn, leading me to spend the evening with friends on the street that I hadn’t expected to meet.

My night was filled with meaningful encounters, from a woman fresh out of jail to someone who had courageously broken up a fight, and a man who beamed with joy talking about his grandson.

Laughter also made its way into our conversations, especially when a hug led to a clumsy moment between me and another friend. I tend to stumble for no reason.

The night brought its share of challenges too, like talking to a new friend upset over failing a drug test which she said she didn’t expect.

When I asked if she had been using drugs, she admitted she had, and yes she thought drugs tests should be announced.

Our talk then shifted to deeper topics like faith, truth, and hope in Christ. And she shared her struggles in trusting God and walking away from things she knows are a hindrance to her life.

This topic opened a door for us to pray together and she held onto my hand, hinting at the loneliness she often felt.

Before leaving, I invited her to attend church somewhere in the near future, hoping she’d find a sense of community and belonging.

My journey also took me a shelter, where I met a young man on his first night there. His hopeful question, “Did the Lord send you?” struck a chord.

I reassured him, listening as he shared his story, a mix of hope and despair. We prayed together, asking for guidance and protection.

As I left, I felt a heavy heart, especially for the young man I remembered teaching many years ago when he was as a child in my Children’s Church class.

The encounter reminded me of the complex paths our lives take.

These stories aren’t just a recount of my evening but a call to remember people who are facing tough situations, and they need our prayers and support.

Let’s pray for their strength, faith, and hope in Christ.

What seemed like random encounters that night were actually moments of purpose, showing that serving in Christ’s name brings us closer to fulfilling His plan.

So friends, let’s ask God to guide our steps, to find His will, and may we show kindness in our steps around town.
