Recently, I had the chance to dine at Hurtado Barbecue, and the experience was a mixed bag. The Texas Trinity plate was a highlight with its tender, smoky ribs that were absolutely finger-licking good. However, the brisket was disappointingly dry, and the sausage didn't hit the mark for me, lacking in flavor and texture. On the side, the hatch mac and cheese was a creamy delight, packed with a subtle hatch chile essence that wasn't overpowering.
The atmosphere of the place was bustling, with a long line that moved fairly quickly. The indoor seating was limited, but they also offered ample outdoor seating which was great for a casual dining experience. The service was a bit of a mixed experience; while one staff member was exceptionally polite, another was less than friendly, which did affect the overall mood.
Despite some hits and misses with the food, the sides like the creamy hatch mac and cheese and the unique Texas Twinkie stood out. It's a place with character, and for those who love exploring different BBQ styles, it's worth a visit, especially for the ribs and the vibrant side dishes.
