‘Bleach Blonde Bad Built Butch Body’: Rep. Jasmine Crockett Files Trademark for Insult Directed at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, Launches Apparel Line

May 16’s insult-laden House committee hearing may soon be immortalized on apparel. Rep. Jasmine Crockett has filed a trademark application for the phrase “BLEACH BLONDE BAD BUILT BUTCH BODY.” The Texas Democrat directed the alliterative insult at Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene during a heated House Oversight Committee session.

The session was convened to vote on holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to provide audio recordings of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur.

The Insult Exchange

Greene initiated the insult exchange with Crockett by remarking, “I don’t think you know what you’re here for. I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”

Crockett later fired back by asking a question about procedure. She said, “I’m just curious … If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde bad built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”

Crockett Clapback Collection

Speaking to CNN a few days later, Crockett clarified that she was seeking to understand the boundaries of congressional protocol but expressed no regrets about her comments.

Following the exchange, Crockett quickly promoted “A Crockett Clapback Collection” on X (formerly Twitter).

“This collection will feature various swag that includes random things I’ve said,” she posted on May 17, indicating that proceeds would support House Democrats. The first item in the collection, a black T-shirt emblazoned with “BLEACH BLONDE BAD BUILT BUTCH BODY,” was showcased in a photo accompanying to the post.

Crockett’s recent trademark filing indicates plans to use the phrase on a range of clothing items, including hats, hoodies, socks, and T-shirts, as well as in political consultancy. Trademark attorney Josh Gerben of Gerben IP discovered and flagged the filing to USA Today.

Crockett, a lawyer who worked as a public defender before getting into politics, earns an annual salary of $174,000 as a congresswoman, according to The Texas Tribune.
