A chilling map by Climate Central suggests that several parts of the United States could be submerged underwater by 2050 due to rising sea levels caused by climate change. The map predicts a rise in sea levels at rates of 2mm and 4mm.

Coastal areas are particularly vulnerable to these predicted sea level rises. The map indicates that large swathes of New York and Los Angeles could be underwater in just over 25 years if current trends persist.

New Jersey , too, could face a significant impact from rising sea levels, according to the map's modelling.

By 2050, areas around East Rutherford would fall below the annual flood level, as depicted in red on the map below.

Meanwhile, parts of Texas , Florida and California are all projected to be submerged by 2100. Rising sea levels could push these affected areas below the tideline.

The West Coast is also expected to face similar impacts. The San Pablo Bay estuary in California could experience significant sea level rises, leaving many areas underwater.

The rising sea levels would not only have a profound impact on human life but also on animal life. The Everglades National Park in Florida, a sanctuary for numerous species, is predicted to be almost entirely submerged, according to the map.

New Orleans' coastal region would face the worst of the rising sea levels, warns Climate Central. Morgan City, with an estimated population of 11,000, would be completely submerged if this scenario were to occur.
