There aren't many things you can count on these days, but Whataburger will never let you down. Now I'm not here to get into the Whataburger vs. In-N-Out debate. But for a fast food burger, Whataburger has to be at or near the top of the list. The Texas-based chain opened their first location in Corpus Christi back in 1950, and since then have grown to over 1,000 locations across the country. But Texas remains their most popular state, with over 70% of their restaurants being located within the Lone Star State. Of course Texas was hit yesterday by the remnants of Hurricane Beryl, which caused devastation in Jamaica before heading towards the United States and making landfall near Galveston as a Category 1 storm. The storm left around 2 million people without power down in Texas, and apparently the utility companies there don't have a great way for customers to track outages. But Texans have found another way to see exactly what neighborhoods around them have power: The Whataburger app. One enterprising Texan took to Twitter to let everybody know that the app shows which restaurants are open (and thus have power), giving folks a way to track just where the power is still off and where it's been turned back on. https://twitter.com/BBQBryan/status/1810509150842974308 Pretty smart. The company even took notice that their app was helping out Texans during an emergency. https://twitter.com/Whataburger/status/1810675466899992990 And now it seems like Whataburger is the unexpected go-to source for information about power outages. https://twitter.com/TexansforVader/status/1810655539858161962 Just further proof that you can always count on Whataburger.
