Texas power outage map: Over 1 million customers without power in aftermath of Beryl

Over a million homes and businesses remain without power in Texas days after Beryl made landfall, killing at least four people and canceling more than 1,300 flights.

Beryl made landfall in Texas as a Category 1 hurricane early Monday morning before traveling northeast across the US, bringing heavy rain and severe storms along with it. The remnants of the storm brought flash flooding to parts of Vermont and New York Wednesday night.

The power outages in Texas , coupled with extreme heat, have made the conditions in the southeast part of the state dangerous. The National Weather Service in Houston issued a Heat Advisory for Friday, noting that the "lack of air conditioning will aggravate the risk for heat-related illnesses." Temperatures are expected to climb into the lower and mid 90s on Friday, with the heat index getting as hot as 106 degrees.

The NWS warns those in the area to:

• Drink plenty of water
• Limit outdoor activities
• Work early or late in the day
• Wear light clothing
• Wear sunscreen
• Check on family and pets

When will power be restored?

More than 1 million people could have their power restored by Sunday, CenterPoint said in a statement Thursday. It estimates that 400,000 customers will have power restored by Friday and 350,000 by Sunday, but 400,000 will remain without electricity a week after the storm made landfall .

"CenterPoint's electric customers are encouraged to enroll in Power Alert Service to receive outage details and community-specific restoration updates as they become available," it stated. "For information and updates, follow @CenterPoint for updates during inclement weather events."
