A 4.9 magnitude earthquake was felt across West Texas late Monday. The epicenter was west of Snyder, about 15 miles northwest of Sweetwater. A lot of North Texas saw some rain Monday, while others didn't see a drop. That will be the case again Tuesday through the upcoming weekend.

Tuesday began with scattered showers on the radar, mainly across the southeastern half of North Texas. Morning temperatures were in the 70s and will reach nearly 90 degrees before the day is done. The average high now is up to 97 degrees, the hottest it gets in North Texas. That 97-degree average high will sit pretty for the next three weeks, after that, we slowly start to cool down as we approach the fall equinox in September.

A stationary cold front and several disturbances will continue to bring widespread rain to the southeastern half of the state through the end of the week. Dallas-Fort Worth will be on the northern fringes of the rain shield, but some areas will get lucky. Temperatures will remain below average through the week with highs near 90 degrees.

A stronger upper-level disturbance will head out of South Texas towards North Texas on Friday. DFW will see a bit more widespread shower and thunderstorm activity. Severity will remain low. After that, the weekend calls for pop-up showers and storms with afternoon highs near 90 on Saturday, and low 90s on Sunday. After that, it looks like a strong area of high pressure will build across the central plains states and nose its way into North Texas. Temperatures will be on the rise and humidity levels will be high until we get rid of the soil moisture from this week's rain.
