TEXOMA ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Several Texoma counties face potentially severe weather on Thursday night.
At 9:35 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for several Texoma counties that will remain in effect until 4 a.m. on Friday.
In Texas, Archer, Baylor, Foard, Hardeman, Throckmorton, Wilbarger and Wichita Counties, as well as Jackson and Tillman Counties in Oklahoma, are at risk for severe storms, which are most likely to develop between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Friday.
KFDX and KJTL Chief Meteorologist Michael Bohling said in a Facebook post on Thursday afternoon that a chance for potentially severe weather exists across Texoma on Thursday afternoon, April 25, 2024, and early Friday morning, April 26.
“Storm timing will be around midnight or later for our western counties, with the storms moving to the northeast and exiting around 6 a.m.,” Bohling said. “Main concerns are large hail and damaging wind gusts, but a couple of tornadoes will be possible as well.”
Bohling said Saturday, April 27, might also have severe weather chances, but the forecast models were unclear, and he would have more information on Friday.
Possible storms carry risks including up to quarter-sized hail, wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour, and a very low risk of tornadic activity.
A severe thunderstorm watch is expected for eastern portions of Texoma early Friday morning as the storms move through the region.
