    Lawton native found dead on Missouri Army base identified

    FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A solider with Texoma ties found dead in an on-post residence on July 12 at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri has been identified.

    Cpl. Robert Wilson III, 23, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound at an on-post residence, according to Ozark Radio News. The source reported that he was pronounced deceased around 12:15 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024.

    According to Fort Leonard Wood’s Public Affairs Office, Wilson’s home of record is Lawton, Okla.

    Wilson was a human resources non-commissioned officer assigned to the 84th Chemical Battalion at Fort Leonard Wood.

    This incident is still under investigation by Fort Leonard Wood law enforcement and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division, according to a press release from base officials.

    “Our deepest condolences and sincerest sympathies are with the Soldier’s family, friends and unit during this difficult time,” said Maj. Gen. Chris Beck, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general. “Our main concern is caring for the family and those impacted, and ensuring they have all the resources and support they need during this time.”

    Fort Leonard Wood is a military training institution located in Pulaski County, Mo.
