It is game week for high school football teams across the state of Texas. Most teams play game one on Friday nights and then spend the weekend looking at film.

Matthew McConaughey has, what I believe is, an outstanding take on this.

No, he’s not literally talking about watching film, but the concept is the same.

We, as humans, are addicted to dissecting our failures. He says we screw up, and we try to figure out what went wrong. But what about the other side of that coin? McConaughey encourages us to dissect success.

If we look back at times we do well the same way we look at our failures, we can pick up on things that are repeatable down the line.

Oftentimes, people go to a diary or a journal when they are frustrated, confused, or lost. But if we can get in the habit of tracking success, more specifically, what exactly it was that made us successful, we can rely on these notes the next time we fail. We can look back and see the road map, the patterns, and the traits that helped us succeed.

So when you’re watching back that game film, definitely look into those mistakes.

But take some extra time to dissect success as well.
