    Elderly Lawton man dead following pin-in crash

    COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla. ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A 79-year-old man from Lawton, Oklahoma, is dead after a pin-in collision on Monday morning in Comanche County.

    According to the crash report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the collision occurred just before 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Southwest 97th Street and Southwest Coombs Road, about a mile west of Lawton in Comanche County.

    The OHP report said a 2001 Toyota 4Runner was traveling northbound on 97th Street and a 2016 Mazda 3 was traveling eastbound on Coombs Road. The driver of the Toyota ran a stop sign and struck the Mazda.

    Authorities said OHP troopers, the Comanche County Sheriff’s Department, the Cache Fire Department, and Comanche County Memorial EMS responded to the scene.

    The crash report said the driver of the Toyota 4Runner was pinned in the vehicle for around 15 minutes before being freed by a passerby.

    According to OHP, the driver of the Toyota, Jimmy Roach, 79, of Lawton, was transported by EMS to Comanche County Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased by an ER physician.

    The driver of the Mazda and a 9-year-old passenger were transported to the hospital by EMS, where they were both treated and released.

    The crash report from OHP said Roach was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
