WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Texting from across the house instead of talking is the reported spark that led to an argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend that ended in an arrest.

Kaci Vowell is charged with assault/family violence.

When police responded to a disturbance in the 1500 block of Speedway on Thursday, Aug. 29, they said the victim told them he and Vowell were texting each other in the house, debating whether to order out or cook dinner.

He said he got upset that the discussion was all by text when they were both in the house, and he made some insulting remarks to her, which led to more words and an argument with her in his face.

He said she then grabbed him by the neck and tried to push him out of the house, and when he resisted, she punched him in the neck and started swinging, hitting him in the side of the head and damaging his glasses.

He said he went to look for a cigarette, and she jumped on his back, scratching and punching him.

Police said Vowell admitted to hitting her boyfriend and trying to get him out of the house by the back of his neck.

Vowell has a previous conviction for child endangerment, for which she got five years of probation. She was just weeks shy of completing the probation in 2020 when it was revoked for repeated drug use, and she was sentenced to jail time. Earlier, the probation had been amended to require weekend jail time.

Police said the endangerment case involved a two-month-old baby with serious medical issues who was left alone in an apartment while Vowell went “to meet a guy,” according to a witness.

When police arrived at the apartment, the baby’s grandmother, a nurse, told them the baby had been at Cook Children’s Hospital and was receiving therapy for respiratory issues, so police broke into the apartment. They said it was hot and muggy, and the baby was in a crib wrapped in a thick blanket.

Another officer located Vowell in the parking lot and said she admitted she had “made a stupid mistake.”
