WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A former Sonic assistant manager who was reportedly fired for theft is charged with breaking into the restaurant and using the code to the safe to take cash.

Jeremy Holt was charged with burglary of a building and is jailed on a $15,000 bond. The arrest warrant was issued on Aug. 13, 2024, and served on Aug. 30.

The burglary was reported on June 28, 2024, at the Sonic at 2407 Windthorst Road. An employee arriving for work early that morning called the police and said a glass door had been shattered.

Police found the safe and cash register open and cleared of cash.

Surveillance video showed a man throwing a large rock through the glass door, going straight to the safe, entering the code, and opening it.

The manager identified him as Holt, who said he knew the code, which had not been changed since Holt had been fired for theft.

Police say $483 in bills were taken from the safe, along with changed wallets containing $210.

Around $300 was believed missing from the cash register. The suspect is seen putting the money into a Sonic bag and leaving by the back door.
