WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The Wichita Falls Police Department has released more information about the train fatality that killed one person in downtown Wichita Falls on Thursday, Sept. 5.

According to WFPD spokesman Sgt. Charlie Eipper, police responded to the intersection of Seventh Street and the BNSF Railway track shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found an adult man had been struck by a train that was traveling southbound. The man’s body was found on the tracks, about 40 feet south of Seventh Street.

The train’s conductor told police he saw the man lying on the track and repeatedly sounded the train’s horn to alert them that a train was coming. The victim sat up and began to move off the track but was struck by the train.

The man’s identity has not been released, and WFPD reports that his next of kin has not been notified.

The WFPD has not filed a crash report, and BNSF Railway is investigating the incident. There were no reported injuries to the train’s crew.
