WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Thanks to the MSU Mustangs’ football team, students at John Tower Elementary know a little more about the fundamentals of football.

It was a day filled with high energy, big smiles, and lots of learning as the MSU Mustangs shared their love of football with the students, leaving a lasting impact that will help them break tackles and break through barriers in life.

From kindergarten through fifth grade, all the way to the teachers, excitement filled the air. Not only did the kids learn about football, but they also received inspirational life lessons.

The event marked an opportunity for young students to gain hands-on experience in football while learning valuable lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

From throwing passes to running drills, the young kids had the chance to experience what it’s like to be a football player, all under the guidance of their college role models. But teamwork is the most important thing players like Mekhi Prospere hope the kids take away.

“It feels good to always come and give back to the community because growing up, I really never had that,” Prospere said. “So, it just felt good to go and teach these kids about football and teamwork because you’re not going to get anywhere without teamwork,” said Prospere.

Coach Dylan Watts gave the kids great advice as the day wrapped up.

“Find something you are interested in. Quite frankly it doesn’t have to be football, it doesn’t have to be sports. If you love art, if you love movies, if you love writing, heck, if you like building things with your hands, find what you love and do what you love,” Watts said. “But do it with 100% of your ability.”

As these kids tackled the drills with excitement, they left with inspiration and new knowledge that will leave a lasting impact, helping them break tackles and break through barriers in life.

The Mustangs’ next home game is Sept. 28 at Memorial Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff. That weekend is also family weekend, so bring the family and watch some good Mustang football!
