Athlete of the week: Tru Gipson, Vernon Lions

VERNON ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Our Athlete of the Week really stepped up his game after a teammate went down with an injury last Friday night.

When Vernon’s Ty Scott was sidelined in the Lions football game against Gainesville with hamstring tightness, teammate Tru Gipson rose to the occasion.

The junior running back put the team on his shoulders, rushing for 246 yards and a pair of scores in a 46-30 win over Gainesville.

He tacked on 56 yards receiving and a touchdown through the air as well. So, for the night, Gipson tallied 302 total yards of offense and three scores.

As part of earning our honor as Athlete of the Week, Vernon’s Tru Gipson will be featured on the digital billboard on Lawrence Road for the rest of the week.
