WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee plans to develop the Veteran’s Plaza further.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, the committee approved $8,500 to build a master plan to expand the veterans portion.

The goal is to add a grand entrance to the plaza to welcome visitors. Shade structures are also in talks of being installed.

The plaza was approved by Wichita Falls City Councilors in April 2022, and since then, it has grown significantly, especially with the Gold Star Monument and parking lot upgrade.

Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee Chair Austin Cobb said the wheels are turning to bring the lake back to its former glory.

“We’re going to take it one step at a time. We’re going to get these renderings done, and then, we’re going to go out and try to raise money from the community,” Cobb said. “We’re this close to getting federal dollars to help start phase one of the dredging project. Completing the Veteran’s Plaza, dredging the lake, you really want this to be a community recreational lake.”

The committee plans to have a rendering of the new additions to the plaza by Veteran’s Day.
