WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A Vernon man police say fled in a stolen RV in Wichita Falls last May, was chased by employees, then ran on foot when he wrecked, has been arrested.

Jonathan Lawrence, 38, was arrested Tuesday, September 10, on a warrant charging him with theft over $2,500 on May 26.

Police said that on June 21, two employees of the auto sales company on Wellington Ln spotted the stolen RV and began following it. When it got stuck in traffic, they ran up to the driver’s door and tried to open it, but the RV took off.

The RV eventually crashed into a parked vehicle, and the driver got out and fled on foot.

The employees told police they recognized the driver as Lawrence, who had previously helped another person wash vehicles at the business.

They also showed police screenshots of messages they found from Lawrence to another person trying to sell the RV.

Police also found a document case in the RV with a social security card and other documents with Lawrence’s name on them.

Lawrence has two other cases pending in Wichita County courts: one for vehicle burglary and one for ID theft involving 19 different cards found in his car.

He was jailed on $20,000 bond.
