WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Strides are being made for a new last-mile distribution center coming to Wichita Falls as $1 million gets added to its budget .

The new project, which some speculate could be an Amazon , will require a new road and utilities as construction creeps up.

First announced in February 2024, the new project started out with a $2.8 million budget; now, it’s been upped to $3.75 million.

“[It will be] about a $3 million expense on new roads and new utilities and then replacing utilities that are almost 50 years old,” Chamber of Commerce CEO Ron Kitchens said.

What Kitchens calls a ‘last-mile distribution center’ will be housed in the Wichita Falls Business Park off Fisher Road. He can’t yet announce what the center will be, but the project’s developers. BHD Land Development primarily focuses on Sephoras and Amazons, according to its website.

And, job openings for a Wichita Falls Amazon location have started popping up in early September on Warehouse Job Hunter and other job search sites.

Whatever is coming, Kitchen said it’s already in the works.

“[We’ll] break ground on the road in the next 30 days,” he said. “I would suspect the building breaks ground in the spring. They want to be done by a year from this Christmas, for sure.”

Despite the boost and with no incentives requested for the 150 new jobs, Kitchens said the 28-acre center will still cost taxpayers nothing.

“Funds available from the Covid relief dollars were allocated to the park, and then the sales price of the land covers the cost of the extension,” he explained.

Meeting with site decision influencers for months prior, Kitchens said it’s shaping up to be a huge economic boost.

“We’ll do 100 to 125 of those meetings a year, and this came from one of those meetings where we called and said, ‘Here’s our advantages, here’s our population, here are all the reasons we believe we’re special, and we work for a company,” he said. “And, clearly, they pitched it to their client, and they agreed as well.”

Kitchen said that at this point in the game, it’s still a “yet-to-be-announced warehouse development” and that more information will be released as the project forges on.

This ain’t going to happen, it’s really sad , but a lot of Fortune 500 companies done want anything to do with Wichita Falls and it’s all to do with one family, and if you know the family, then you already know they won’t allow it to happen.

Why can’t they announce/reveal the business?
