    Elderly man dead following two-car crash in Vernon

    WILBARGER COUNTY ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A grinding two-car crash in Vernon on Thursday afternoon has claimed the life of an elderly man.

    Authorities at the scene said the crash occurred at around 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, on College Drive in front of the campus of Vernon Junior College.

    According to Vernon Police Department Chief Wayne Hodges, a 90-year-old man died following the collision. His identity has not been released as of the publication of this story.

    Chief Hodges said another person was hospitalized with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

    According to our crew at the scene, it appears that one of the vehicles T-boned the other, causing it to roll and come to rest on its side. Police said no one was ejected during the crash.

    The Vernon Police Department and the Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, and the Texas Department of Public Safety sent a crash reconstruction team with a drone to assist authorities with the investigation.

    No further details regarding the collision have been released as of the publication of this story.
