SAINT JO ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The City of Saint Jo has issued a boil order notice for residents following a requirement imposed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The order was issued due to a water main break on Highway 82. Residents must either boil water before consuming it in any way or purchase bottled water that is safe for consumption.

When boiling water for consumption, it must reach a roiling boil of 212 degrees Fahrenheit or 100 degrees Celsius for at least two minutes to destroy any harmful bacteria. Then, let the water cool to a suitable temperature for its intended purpose.

The city said it would issue another notice once the boil order was rescinded.

Visit TCEQ’s website for more information on safely boiling water during a Boil Water Notice and the types of everyday actions that require boiling water.
