WINDTHORST ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Year after year, the Windthorst Trojanettes dominate on the volleyball court.

Last season, the Trojanettes peaked at number two in the state rankings.

Their offense fueled by Annikah Frank and Rylee Wolf.

When the two dominate hitters graduated, there were doubts Windthorst would remain in the state rankings.

“I feel like this whole year we have been building our way up and trying to get to our best before districts,” junior setter Violet West said. “I think we have done a really great job improving over the season, building up to be the best we can.”

“We are very scrappy,” head coach Allison Bussey said. “Teams have a tough time putting the ball away against us. I think that is one of our strengths this year.”

One thing lacking in the lineup for this season is height.

With at least two six footers graduating, the Trojanettes’ roster is smaller in size.

“Even thought we lost a lot of players, we are still good and competitors,” junior outside hitter Charlee Wolf said. “We are not the same kind of team. I think we communicate a lot better and play more like a team this year.”

“I would say we are underdogs,” West said. “We are going to be considered an underdog, but we are still going to surprise some people.”

Windthorst still has a bitter taste in their mouth from losing in the state semifinal last year, the Trojanettes are hungry to return to Garland.
