WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The end draws closer for one of Wichita Falls’ once most popular and prominent hotels, which has been vacant for more than ten years after falling on hard times.

The city is accepting bids for the demolition and clearing of the abandoned Hotel by the Falls so that a city park can replace it.

When it opened in 1985, the 170-room hotel was originally a Sheraton. It underwent various name changes until it finally closed more than 10 years ago.

After many years of dealing with transients and burglars, broken windows, and flooding issues, the city moved to have the property condemned and purchased by eminent domain. The city and owners then agreed this summer to sell the hotel and part of the land.

Those interested in submitting a bid must do so with an official bid form provided by Property Administration. The bid must be sealed with your signature across the seal in the specially marked envelope provided.

For more information about submitting a bid and the process that comes once a bid is accepted, contact the Office of Property Administration at (940) 761-8816 or via email .

Bids on the demolition and clearing will close on Oct. 17 at 1:30 p.m .

All this so they can fix or make a park that is expanded and will flood in heavy rains. How about fixing the streets and pipes of this city both are just as terrible as that hotel and it probably could have sat even longer. The priorities of the city leadership is terrible in this city .
