WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A clothes dryer in the garage of a Wichita Falls residence is to blame for a structure fire that caused an estimated $15,000 in damages early Friday morning, according to officials with the Wichita Falls Fire Department.

Firefighters with the WFFD were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of Jalonick Street just after 1:30 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, for a possible structure fire.

According to Lt. Jody Ashlock, Assistant Fire Marshal, the first units that arrived at the scene reported heavy smoke from the garage. He said it took around 10 minutes to extinguish the single-alarm fire.

Lt. Ashlock said the occupants of the residence were outside when fire crews arrived. The occupants told authorities that a dryer was running in the garage when they noticed smoke inside the home. They said they turned off the breaker and evacuated to the street to call 911.

According to Lt. Ashlock, none of the occupants, nor any WFFD firefighters were injured, and the Red Cross was not called to the scene.

Lt. Ashlock said the structure sustained an estimated $10,000 in damages and an estimated $5,000 in damages to the contents of the home.
