According to Texas Department of Public Safety public information officer Sgt. Juan Gutierrez, shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, emergency crews responded to the Southside canal near the Wichita and Archer County line for a car that had driven into the canal and sank, trapping the driver inside the car.

Gutierrez said a good Samaritan saw the submerged car and rescued the woman. According to Gutierrez, speed appeared to have been a factor in her crash. The woman was treated for minor injuries, and no other vehicles were involved.
