WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — One is dead and another is injured after police said pedestrians who exited their car were struck by passing vehicles on a Wichita Falls interstate.

LOCAL NEWS: Two dead, five critical after Wise County crash

According to Sgt. Charlie Eipper, Public Information Officer with the Wichita Falls Police Department, officers responded to the crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 44, Central Freeway, at the Missle Road exit just before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2024.

Sgt. Eipper said Wichita County Sheriff’s Office deputies found a male pedestrian lying in the roadway. Life-saving measures were attempted on him, but he was declared deceased at the scene.

Investigators found that the victim had been a passenger in a vehicle that pulled to the side of the roadway on I-44. The victim exited the driver’s side rear passenger door, but since the vehicle was still partially in the roadway, he was struck by a passing vehicle, which was still on the scene.

Another passenger then exited the vehicle and ran into the roadway to rescue the victim but was also struck by a passing vehicle. He was transported with non-life-threatening injuries. No information was given about the vehicle that struck him.
