WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A Wichita Falls staple has served the community for over 30 years. As Hispanic Heritage Month winds down, the owner of the Burrito Shop explains how she’s living the American dream.

“We came from nothing,” Patricia Herrera said. The Burrito Shop has served customers in downtown Wichita Falls for over three decades. “Now we have this,” Herrera said as she wrapped a burrito.

Patricia Herrera took over the family business in 2019. Her mom, Elva, used to work at the shop when the old location was on Kemp. Since 1992, Elva and her husband, Manuel Herrera, have built a strong clientele.

“We’re just a close-knit business,” Herrera said. “I have a full-time job, but this actually gives me a little more pride because it’s something that my parents have established.”

From fresh-made tortillas, fresh ingredients, and menudo on Saturdays, the customers Herrera’s parents have established continue to show up.

“The customers have been here since day one, and they get the same things; they order the same stuff,” Herrera said.

Herrera said she’s not in it for the money but for the community that helped her family find the American dream.

“Our customers are also our family. So they’ve seen my daughters grow up, and they’re always asking about my mom,” Herrera said. Herrera works to continue to serve her family for another 30 years and beyond.

The Burrito Shop is cash only. Herrera said it’s easier and doesn’t want to charge customers a card fee.

The Burrito Shop, located at 907 Ninth Street in Wichita Falls, is open Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
